About our school

Lakelands Public School was built in 1961 as an integral part of a housing estate that was established in Dapto, a suburb of Wollongong.

The school, sited on eight hectares of picturesque land and surrounded by residential blocks, caters for students from kindergarten to Year 6 (K- 6). It maintains and promotes its community links by - being proactive and keeping the community aware of current directions in education through specific programs and the parent organisations; promoting a sense of worth and belonging in parents and students through programs which encourage parents to be part of our school and recognise students for school /class achievement; encouraging shared decision making by seeking parents' opinions through the School Council, Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) and various committees, and seeking students' opinions through the Student Representative Council; and providing, for students, improved educational opportunities by regularly reviewing the teaching and assessing of basic skills subjects and by offering support and alternate teaching programs (example - reading recovery, dance).
